Action: Restores Wind River salmon and steelhead angling rules to permanent rules listed in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet. All other permanent rules remain in effect.
Effective date: May 29, 2026.
Species affected: Salmon and steelhead.
Location: Wind River from the mouth to 400 feet downstream of the Shipherd Falls fish ladder. The Wind River mouth is defined by the buoy line markers south of the Highway 14 bridge.
Reason for action: The Wind River adult salmon daily limit was reduced earlier this year to help ensure Carson National Fish Hatchery met its spring Chinook broodstock collection goal. Hatchery managers indicate spring Chinook returns to the hatchery are on track to meet broodstock collection goals. As a result, a reduced daily adult limit is no longer needed.
Additional information: Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website before fishing.
