Action: Salmon fishing open seven days a week; up to two hatchery Chinook may be retained.
Effective date: July 18 – 31, 2026.
Species affected: Salmon
Location: Marine Area 5, except the Kydaka Point Area (waters south of a line drawn from Kydaka Point to Shipwreck Point.)
Salmon rules: Open daily. Chinook minimum size 22 inches. Other salmon species no minimum size. Daily limit two. Release chum, sockeye, wild coho, and wild Chinook.
Reason for action: Catch estimates for the Marine Area 5 Chinook fishery indicate the fishery has reached 15% of the total legal sized encounters limit (657 of 4,323), through July 11. Based on estimates to date, sufficient total legal-size encounters remain under fishery guidelines to allow the fishery to open seven days per week and allow retention of up to two hatchery Chinook per day.
WDFW arrived at this decision in consultation with the Puget Sound Sportfishing Advisory group and representatives of the Sekiu fishing community.
Additional Information: The Kydaka Point Area remains closed to salmon fishing.
