Action: Reopens fishing in the Quillayute River with reduced salmon retention limits and prohibits bait for all species.
Effective dates: Oct. 6, 2026, until further notice.
Species affected: All species.
Location: Quillayute River (Clallam County), from Olympic National Park boundary upstream to confluence of Sol Duc and Bogachiel rivers.
Rules:
- All game fish: Open under rules described in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules, except bait is prohibited.
- Salmon: Minimum size 12 inches. Daily limit two including no more than one wild adult. Release sockeye. Bait is prohibited.
Reason for action: This action is necessary to provide fall fishing opportunities while reducing impacts to salmon moving upstream to spawning grounds. Although recent rainfall has provided improved migration conditions for returning salmon, until additional precipitation can provide sustained Quillayute River flows, bait restrictions and reduced salmon limits are needed to extend salmon fishing opportunity later in the fall.
Additional information: This action is taken in coordination with Quillayute River tribal co-managers. Quillayute River tributaries, including the Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Calawah, and Dickey rivers, remain open under permanent rules as described in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules.
Fishing rules for waters within Olympic National Park boundaries can be found on the park website.
Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website before fishing. Refer to the Washington Sport Fishing Rules for current regulations. Download the Fish Washington® mobile app to stay up to date on the go.
