"I Been Fishin' Longer Than You" Report

May 19, 2026

Alright ya whippersnappers, Grandpa Sasquatch here, back from battling the swells and wrestling kelp. Forget what those sunshine-pumpin' reports are sayin'. This is the real skinny on Sekiu fishin' for the next two weeks. Day 1-3: Expect nothin' but seaweed and disappointment. The salmon are probably on vacation down in Mexico. Coho are probably sulking about the crowds. Don't forget your rubber boots, it will be wet.
Day 4-7: Maybe, maybe, you'll snag a scrappy little pink salmon. Treat it with respect. It's probably bigger than anything you've caught lately. The tides ain't helping so stay near the shore.
Day 8-11: The weather's starting to look like it might clear up... Don't get your hopes up. If you're gonna go out, invest in a good reel. Ya don't want yer gear breakin' on the water. That would be an embarrassment. Like the Shimano Stradic Reel; reliable and won't quit on you like that no-name junk you probably got from a garage sale.
Day 12-14: Still mostly empty nets, if you are getting frustrated, go grab a beer. What's Bitin': Your patience, mostly. And maybe some small pink salmon if you're persistent.
Pro Tip: Bring extra coffee. And maybe a flask of somethin' stronger. You'll need it.
Grandpa's Grumble: Back in my day, the salmon were bigger, the beer was cheaper, and the youngsters showed some respect! Nowadays? Bah! Go fish! And get off my lawn!

Grandpa's Gear Recommendation: Quit fishin' with that 20-year-old line. Fresh Shimano Stradic Reel are on sale here. Buy 'em or stay home and watch soap operas.

Sekiu Fishing Forecast & Tide Charts

History of the Place:
Sekiu (pronounced “SEE-kyoo”) is a time capsule. It's a tiny village that has been the epicenter of Washington salmon fishing since the 1950s. Famous for its “Caves” and its legendary fishing resorts, it's a place where the Wi-Fi is bad but the fishing is prehistoric.

List of Fishing Areas:

  • The Caves: Steep rock walls that provide cover for trophy Chinook.

  • Mussolini Rock: A landmark for trollers chasing deep-water fish.

  • Slip Point: A key transition point for fish moving into Clallam Bay.

  • Pillar Point: A slightly eastern spot known for quieter waters.

Type of Fish:
Winter Blackmouth, Summer Chinook, Coho, and Lingcod.

Season Fishing Forecast:

  • Winter: The best place in the state for February Blackmouth.

  • Spring: Bottom fishing for heavy Lingcod and Rockfish.

  • Summer: “Chinook Nirvana” during the July and August migrations.

  • Fall: Large ocean-run Silvers stack up in the bays.

Grandpa's Cold Hard Truth:
Sekiu is my favorite spot because it's the only place that hasn’t been ruined by modern Juniors. If you can’t catch a fish at the Caves, you should probably just take up golf. Check the Sekiu tide charts and quit your whining.
