Action: Beginning Sept. 1, the Quillayute River is closed to all recreational fishing Mondays and Tuesdays through Sept. 8 and then closed on Mondays through Oct. 12.
Effective dates: Sept. 1, Sept. 7–8, Sept. 14, Sept. 21, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, and Oct. 12, 2026.
Species affected: All species
Location: Quillayute River (Clallam County), from the Olympic National Park boundary upstream to the confluence of the Sol Duc and Bogachiel rivers.
Rules: Closed to all fishing.
Reason for action: This emergency rule change is needed to reduce gear conflict between treaty and non-treaty fisheries and to align with harvest management agreements made with co-managers in the 2026 North of Falcon preseason fishery planning process. Refer to WDFW's webpage for information on tribal fishing.
Additional information: The fall salmon fishery opens Sept. 1 in the Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Calawah, and Dickey rivers, and Sept. 2 in the Quillayute River (outside of Monday and Tuesday closures).
Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website before fishing. Refer to the Washington Sport Fishing Rules for current regulations. Download the Fish Washington® mobile app to stay up to date on the go.
