Green (Duwamish) River Chinook retention closed

Action: Closes Chinook salmon retention.

Effective dates: Aug. 20, 2026, until further notice.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Green (Duwamish) River from Tukwila International Boulevard/Old Highway 99 to the South 212th Street Bridge.

Salmon Rules: Minimum size 12 inches. Daily limit six including no more than three of any combination of chum and adult coho. Release Chinook.

Reason for action: In-season fishery data indicates the Chinook return to Green River is much smaller than forecasted. This rule change is necessary to help ensure broodstock and natural spawning goals are reached.

Additional information: Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website before fishing. Refer to the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for current regulations. Download the Fish Washington® mobile app to stay up to date on the go.
